Consistency and a competitive mindset were key components of The Blue Sharks’
successful CAF qualification campaign for their first World Cup appearance. Led by
former captain of the team Bubista, they registered an excellent home form that saw
them go unbeaten, winning four of their five games without conceding a goal.
Team’s Strength
Defensive Organization
The Blue Sharks boast of a defensive system that has been resilient in recent matches,
building itself around collective organization. Bubista’s strong belief in the importance of
team spirit has created a compact system that makes it difficult for opponents to create
chances. It continues to grow into a solid unit that communicates well and knows how to
keep its shape.
Midfield Balance
The team excels at disrupting opposition passing lanes and winning second balls.
Having midfielders who combine physicality with tactical discipline, their strong work
rate allows them to remain competitive even when facing technically superior teams.
The all-rounded midfielders are the engine of the team, as are comfortable supporting
both defense and attack.
Transition Efficiency
The team’s prowess in possession recovery is topped up with aggressive attacks from
wingers whose have speed and creativity as their strength. This makes them dangerous
against opponents who commit numbers forward.
Weakness
The team can struggle to unlock compact defenses due to its limited number of creative players. This is compounded by their low conversion rate, which means their matches often remain close.
Player to Watch
Estrela’s forward Jovane Cabral possesses the individual talent that influences matches. His ability to play in different attacking positions makes him a creative outlet during transitions; his pace and unpredictability making it easy to independently create chances.
